The final examination and certificate of completion for the FEMP Introduction to Executive Order (E.O.) 13514 training is now available.

Please note that the exam is an additional teaching tool focused on E.O. 13514. You will not be graded, nor will your score be collected. A certificate of completion will be generated automatically upon completing the exam.

Course Description

An overview of Executive Order 13514 including specific goals within the federal government concerning:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions;

  • Energy efficiency;

  • Water efficiency;

  • Pollution prevention and waste elimination;

  • Regional and local planning;

  • Sustainable federal buildings;

  • Sustainable acquisition;

  • Electronics stewardship; and,

  • Environmental management. 

There will be a discussion of the purpose and benefits of the Executive Order as well as next steps and timetables in the execution of the Executive Order.

Audience Federal and federal contractor employees with responsibilities that consider environmental and energy management.
Learner Objectives

Within your scope of responsibility:

  1. You will understand the Goal Areas as outlined in Executive Order 13514;

  2. Give an explanation of the purpose and national benefits of Executive Order 13514;

  3. Begin the discussion process to meet the goals of  Executive Order 13514; and

  4. Share your learning with other decision makers within your facility and agency.

Leslie Gillespie-Marthaler

Senior Program Manager (Detailed from U.S. Army), Office of the Federal Environmental Executive

 

Leslie Gillespie-Marthaler is a Senior Program Manager for the Office of the Federal Environmental Executive, White House Council on Environmental Quality, currently on a one-year detail from the U.S. Army. Her responsibilities are to assist with guidance development and implementing instructions for E.O. 13514.

From 2003 to 2006, Leslie worked as a defense contractor, providing support to the Army and Navy on environmental programs, sustainability planning, and technology management. Since 2006, she has served as a civilian with the U.S. Army, where she managed agency-wide environmental technology programs; developed environmental cost models, reporting tools, and program budgets; and provided oversight for environmental policy.

Leslie graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1994 with a B.S. in Environmental Engineering, and served for five years as an active duty Army officer in the Adjutant General’s Corps. She received an M.S. in Civil Engineering with a focus on sustainable design and construction from Georgia Tech in 2002. In 2006, Leslie undertook a Ph.D. program in Environmental and Energy Management at The George Washington University.

We will provide a live Webcast (not a Webinar) to enable receiving the FEMP First Thursday Seminars at your desktop computer. You will not need a login or a telephone number to dial into for your audio. This webcast is complete with audio and video of the live satellite broadcast, plus a separate window with the  presentation slides. Be sure and give yourself time to try out the test links before the day of the Seminar.

 

These Webcasts will be archived after each live broadcast and available 24/7 from a link on the FEMP Training website. The links to all Live Webcasts will be available on this website by the day of each course.

 

Things webcast users will need to know/have/do:

  1. Test compatibility of the user’s system before hand using the test links below. 

  2. A computer with a broadband connection (at least 512kbs per user on the network) The best viewing results will be with high speed connections.

  3. If using Internet Explorer on a PC you will need either Windows Media Player installed or the Microsoft Silverlight browser plugin.

  4. If using another browser (officially only supports Firefox and Chrome) or a Mac they will need the Microsoft Silverlight browser plugin.

  5. Be sure your computer speakers are turned on and the volume turned up before the broadcast.
