Course Description

Energy 101 provides an introduction to energy management including the following topics

  • an overview of energy management components: energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water efficiency;

  • legislative basis for energy management;

  • process diagram for getting started in energy management;

  • establishing baseline measurements;

  • developing improvement plans;

  •  financing options;

  • greening your purchasing; and,

  • resources for energy managers.         

Audience

Energy 101 is designed for new energy managers and other new energy and environmental professionals who are relatively new to the field and want an overall introduction to energy management and energy management resources.

Learner Objectives

After completing this seminar, you will be able to:

 

  1. Define energy management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water efficiency.
  2. Access relevant Federal legislation and Executive Orders and FEMP's crosswalk which compares the new Executive Order 13514 to other legislation and Executive Orders.
  3. Explain a process diagram for performing energy management initiatives.
  4. Determine how you will establish baseline measurements in various energy management arenas.
  5. Discuss how to develop a Plan of Action.
  6. Discuss various financing options that can be considered.
  7. Access resources for greening your purchasing including FEMP designated, Energy Star, EPEAT, Water Sense, Biobased, EPP, and recycled content.
  8. Locate resources on the FEMP website and other federal resources for energy manager training and information sharing.

Instructor

Linda Mesaros

Linda Mesaros has vast experience in the environmental, energy, and procurement areas. She served as Deputy of the Office of the Environmental Executive (OFEE).  Ms. Mesaros also served as the  Chief of Staff of the White House Task Force on Waste Prevention, Recycling, and Federal Acquisition. Ms. Mesaros led the federal government's efforts in the implementation of  Executive Order 13101, Greening the Government Through Recycling, Waste Prevention, and Federal Acquisition. Ms. Mesaros formerly served as Deputy Administrator for Procurement Innovation at the Office of Management and Budget’s Office of Federal Procurement Policy (OFPP).  In this position, she provided procurement policy leadership and management direction for the entire Federal government on energy, environmental, electronic commerce, small business, and performance-based service contracting initiatives. 

 

Ms. Mesaros is President of Mesaros Associates Inc. a woman-owned small business that specializes in environmental, energy, and contracting consulting services for the Federal government.   Most recently, Ms. Mesaros has been actively involved in sustainability efforts and  sustainable acquisition within the federal government where she currently supports both the Department of Energy, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of State.
